Kalami village is located 80 kilometers from Heraklion, near Vianos village. In the 70's it was inhabited by 600 people.
Today with 8 elderly residents is considered to be a ghost village as with through the years the inhabitants looking for something better settled in southern parts of Crete.
The main occupations of the inhabitants were the cultivation of cereals, olive trees, vineyards, etc. The location of the village is not accidental since it was chosen by the first inhabitants to avoid the pirates as it was frequent at that time.
