Agia Galini is located on the southern coast of Rethymnon, 80 km from the city of Heraklion, which since the 70's is a popular seaside resort with a beautiful beach.
Previously the village was a small fishing village serving the surrounding mountain villages, but since the 1960s where the surrounding area was visited by hippies, tourism developed quite a bit, becoming today a well-developed tourist place. The small harbor with the fishing boats, the steep cliffs over which the village is built, the cobbled streets full of aromas and color, as well as the beautiful beach, make up a picturesque place ideal for a summer vacation, which has gained loyal visitors over the years.
The village has all the amenities since it is rich in hotels, taverns, restaurants and nightlife of all kinds. From the harbor start small boats that visit beautiful beaches and seaside caves. A famous attraction is the rock above the harbor, from which, according to mythology, Daedalus and Icarus flew, where two statues were built for them.
