Achlada is a small village a few kilometres away from Agia Pelagia and almost 23 km northwest of Heraklion.
The village with 100 residents is built on a hill and has a beautiful scene at the sea. Agia Pelagia was Achlada’s fishing port but after its growth to a tourist resort, the residents moved by sea and worked with tourism.
The village’s name is based on a folk myth which is about a story of a couple who was being chased and they were hidden at a big pear tree (achladia).
