The small church of Agios Nikitas is located 300 m northeast of Frangokastello castle, built on the ruins of an Early Christian basilica which is dated back to the 6th century.
The basilica, which seems to have been abandoned through the Arabic invasions, was three spaced and had 26 m in length. The encrustationed floor from the basilica and also its walls still remain until today.
Later, during the Venetian invasions, some materials from the basilica ruins were used for the construction of the castle.
The one-roomed church of Agios Nikitas appears in the 13th century. Apparently, the floor and the walls of the old basilica are part of the church’s architecture.
