15 kilometers west of Heraklion, lies the beach of Palaiokastro. It is a pebbly beach extremely protected from the strong winds, as there are tall rocks from the both sides.
To the east of the beach there is a fortress of Venetian origin, located on the huge rock that the visitor will encounter near the particular beach that protected the area from hostile attacks.
It is a favorite destination of the locals for their summer swimming and of course is a place of competition for the best dives from the imposing rocks, always with special caution.
Between the rocks you will notice the very dark cave that dominates between them, which is said to be an escape exit of the castle.
